LivingWellRested | Restore Sound Sleep

The insomnia problem

Insomnia is a huge problem in the U.S. At any given time, somewhere around a third of Americans are suffering from sleep troubles, and the consequences range in severity, from mood issues to accidents and serious physical health issues. An individual that sleeps on average less than six hours per night has a 13% higher mortality risk than an individual sleeping between seven and nine hours.

Insomnia results in an estimated $63 billion yearly cost in lost workplace performance, due to both absenteeism and fatigue while at work. In fact, each employee who sleeps poorly costs their employer an estimated average of $1,967 each year in lost productivity.

Why most insomnia solutions fall short

Understandably, the most common answer for people struggling with sleep is medication. However, pills do nothing to address the real issues that drive insomnia. Furthermore, medications can be habit-forming and potentially dangerous. They can remain in the system after someone wakes, leaving them drowsy and less able to drive or operate machinery safely.

The truth is that for most, insomnia is psychological—a self-fulfilling prophecy. People with insomnia already know they’ll have trouble sleeping—and that’s part of the problem. Insomnia is often driven by thought patterns, beliefs, and habits that create anxiety and stress which perpetuate sleep problems.

The SelfHelpWorks approach

Chronic insomnia usually involves certain thought patterns and unhealthy behaviors that a person continuously practices, oftentimes without even realizing they are doing anything detrimental. People with insomnia have body clocks that are confused and out of sync with the time of day. Therefore, the key to permanently ending a case of insomnia is to fix the harmful thought patterns and change the unhealthy behaviors; this process gradually allows the body clock to reset itself and align with the day/night cycle.

The LivingWellRested sleep program utilizes the traditional tenets of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia in combination with our own unique methods of instilling lasting behavior change. The result is a powerful 8-session program designed to return participants to the pleasure of sound sleeping within just a few short weeks. The results is better overall health, improved productivity and a better quality of life.
