LivingLean | Gaining Power Over Food

Program Details

The obesity epidemic is worsening in the US, which is why billions of dollars are spent on weight management programs each year. A recent Duke University study of workplace weight management programs found that the biggest barrier to healthy eating for obese participants isn’t that they don’t know what, when, or how to eat – it’s that they can’t resist the temptation to eat unhealthy or fattening foods.

Roughly two-thirds of Americans are overweight, and half of those are obese. An obese employee costs their employer an estimated $1,935 a year in increased health costs, lost productivity and absenteeism. That translates into approximately $1,908 each day in excess costs for a company with one thousand employees.

Typical behavior modification strategies focus on the use of willpower to overcome cravings, but can’t address the psychological drivers that lead people to crave certain foods or repeat unhealthy eating patterns. Unless a weight management program tackles this issue head-on, participants almost always go back to their unhealthy eating habits and regain the weight.

LivingLean focuses on changing the way participants think and feel about food rather than telling them what diet to follow. Using a scientifically-based cognitive behavioral training process, LivingLean breaks down and replaces the underlying beliefs, thoughts, and emotions that create cravings for unhealthy foods. The result is genuine, lasting behavior change and a higher quality of life.
